Takurua Vets is a dream come true!

Hello, I’m Dr. Ebeneze Spamers! I’m originally from sunny South Africa. If you had told 10-year-old me that I’d be opening my own vet clinic in Christchurch, New Zealand, I would have laughed you off and gone back to braiding my pony’s mane.

My journey as a vet started back home, where I graduated from the University of Pretoria in 2014, driven by a lifelong passion for animals. Now, I’m excited to bring my experience and love for animals to the pets and families of Christchurch. In 2018, I made the exciting move to New Zealand with my wonderful husband, Abram Spamers, and our wee rescue cat, Riley.

Since then, we’ve welcomed our beautiful daughter Illya into our family, making life delightfully busy and fulfilling.

Abram is a qualified data scientist and will manage the business side of Takurua Vets, ensuring smooth operations and a seamless experience for our clients. Though his expertise lies in the tech industry, he has been humorously informed that a future as a veterinary nurse might be on the horizon!

Over the past ten years, I’ve had the privilege of practicing in various veterinary clinics across the world. The last seven years have been spent in Canterbury, where I’ve honed my skills and developed a deep understanding of the needs of our local pet community. This experience has been invaluable and has prepared me to take on this new chapter in my career and to provide the highest standard of care to our clients.

We have fallen in love with New Zealand and now consider it our home. Choosing a Te Reo name for our clinic was important to us as a way to connect more deeply with the rich cultural heritage of this beautiful country. With the gracious support of the Tuahiwi Marae, we have proudly named our clinic Takurua Vets.

Our vision is to create a welcoming and compassionate environment where pets receive the highest standard of care. With a small, dedicated team, we are committed to providing personalised and comprehensive veterinary services.
